Abstract:
This paper describes the experience gained by the dry zone Agricultural Project in four Dry Zone districts ofSri Lanka
in alleviating poverty. The paper argues that mitigating poverty requires support in both institutional and technical
aspects. It was established that one of the reasons for the success of the project is the partnership strategy it has adopted
in both planning and implementing deveiopment initiatives. Ecologically sound agricultural techniques promoted by the
project arc described along with the best management practices associated with rain water harvesting.
