Abstract:

The National Agricultural Research Organization (NARO) and the Department for International Development
(D Fm) U.K. are supporting an agricultural technology generation and dissemination initiative in Teso and Lango
regions of Uganda. The NARO/DFID Client Oriented Agricultural Research and Dissemination (COARD) Project
based at the Serere Agricultural and Animal Production Research Institute (SAARI) aims to promote the adoption
of productivity enhancing agricultural technologies among a wide spectrum of poor households in Teso and Lango.
Between May and June 2002, the COARD Project commissioned a study to identify the potential agricultural
market opportunities for Teso and Lango regions, in response to the challenges posed by the Plan for Modernization
of Agriculture (PMA). The study employed the Rapid Market Appraisal techniques obtaining information from
producers, market intermediaries and consumers.
