Abstract:
Tress can be planted for many reasons, among
others are to provide tree products and services,
as a form of insurance for times of hardship, a
saving scheme to cover school fees or as a
retirement package. Choosing the right tree
species has been a very difficult task for those
who want to plant.
The Agroforestry Programme through its
initiatives of bringing more tree species on-farm
has therefore been selecting and evaluating
selected high value tree species for the various
tree products.
Because of the increasing timber demand in the country, Maesopsis eminii (Musizi) has been identified by the agroforestry programme as the species with the highest potential for timber production. The tree has been growing in the forest but can be successfully integrated into tree-crop farming system.
