pending on public agricultural research and development
(R&D) in Uganda has grown substantially since 1995, the
irst year for which data were available (Figure 1).1
In 2008,
Uganda spent 54.5 billion Ugandan shillings or 88.0 million PPP
dollars on agricultural R&D, both in 2005 constant prices (Table 1).
Note that, unless otherwise stated, all dollar values in this note
are expressed in purchasing power parity (PPP) prices.2
PPPs
relect the purchasing power of currencies more efectively than
do standard exchange rates because they compare the prices of
a broader range of local—as opposed to internationally traded—
goods and services
