Abstract:
In Uganda, pig production is increasingly becoming important with a very fast developing over the past three decades. This is indicated by the change in pig population from 0.19 to 3.2 million, and it has been estimated to increase by 3% (MAAIF, 2009, 2011). This has been attributed to increased demand for animal protein attributed to high population growth. According to ILRI (2011), per capita consumption of pork in Uganda was 3.4kg per person per year, and is so far the highest in sub-Saharan Africa.
