Abstract:
The improvement of methods for estimating post-harvest losses (PHL) was identified by the member countries of
the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) as a priority research topic to be included in the
research activities of the Global Strategy to improve Agricultural and Rural Statistics (hereafter, GSARS or Global
Strategy). In particular, the objective of the research on this topic is to develop cost-effective statistical methods for
measuring PHL1, focused but not limited to their use in developing countries.
