Abstract:
Prior to 1970, Forest Department enjoyed an advanced system of Natural High Forest
Management with well controlled working and harvesting plans. However, after 1970,
there was gradual deterioration of the management systems due to the decline in
resources available to the department. This resulted in a number of management
operations including stockmapping not being practised.
Although stockmapping has always been included in the syllabus for Nyabyeya
Fo'restry College, there has not been effective practical training of the operation.
In order to impMve efficiency in logging practices and control, it is imperative that
stockmajing is resusàitated
