Abstract:
The Tree Improvement and Germplasm Research Programme (TIGRP) embarked on the process of strategic planning as a result of an organizational shift in research delivery mode from themes to programmes in the National Agriculture Research Organization (NARO). The need for strategic thinking has therefore been emphasized in recent times and this has been implemented through Annual Research Reviews and Planning meetings, during which key stakeholders assess progress and set targets for research outputs. Research programmes have therefore been urged to develop strategic plans in order for their activities and outputs to fit better into institute and organizational aspirations. At a workshop held at Mukono Zonal Agricultural Research and Development Institute (ZARDI) from 9th to 11th September 2015, it was agreed that all activities of NARO research programmes be guided by strategic plans. This strategic plan has therefore been developed to guide the research agenda of the Tree Improvement and Germplasm Research Programme for the next 10 years.
