Abstract:
Cotton is an important cash crop in Uganda. It was a main export crop prior to 1950, when it was overtaken by coffee• and up to 1971 it held second place to coffee, accounting for 23%of total foreign exchange earnings. It is also a source of raw materials for local industries which manufacture textiles, cooking oil, soap and seed cake for livestock. locally it provided income to at least 60%df the country's population.
