Abstract:
National Fisheries Resources Research Institute (NaFIRRI) undertakes quarterly monitoring of the water environment at Source of the Nile (SON) fish farm. This activity which is through a collaborative arrangement between the proprietors of SON fish farm and NaFIRRI started in 2011 and has continued up to date, with the aim of assessing possible environment changes as a result of SON fish farm operations in the area. The following key parameters were established to be monitored: water temperature, dissolved oxygen, pH, conductivity, water transparency, total suspended solids, nutrient status, algae, zooplankton, benthic macro invertebrates and fish communities.
