Abstract:

Ecological monitoring survey No. 14 (9th -14th April 2014) on the Upper Victoria Nile is the fifth one to be undertaken during the post-construction period of Bujagali hydropower dam. Construction was completed in February 2012, creating a reservoir behind the dam that extends beyond Kalange-Makwanzi, an upstream transect. A third transect was created in the mid reach (30 m deep) of the established reservoir during the 10th monitoring survey-April 2012. Since then, three transects have been maintained for the previous five ecological monitoring surveys. These transects are: mid-reservoir and the original two sampling ones, Kalange-Makwanzi and Buyala-Kikubamutwe. Two pre-construction baseline surveys in April 2000 and April 2006 were conducted and during construction phase, eight monitoring surveys (September 2007, April 2008, April 2009, October 2009, April 2010, September 2010, April 2011, September 2011) were conducted.
