Abstract:

In ensuring proper cage fish farming practice that conserves the water environment while increasing fish production, the proprietors of Source of the Nile (SON) fish farm entered into a collaborative arrangement with NaFIRRI, an institute under National Agricultural Research Organisation (NARO) specializing in fisheries research and innovations, to undertake quarterly environment monitoring surveys at the SON cage fish farm. The following were established as key parameters to be monitored: water temperature, dissolved oxygen, pH, conductivity, water transparency, total suspended solids, nutrient status, algae, zooplankton, benthic macro invertebrates and fish communities.
