Abstract:
The period under review was marked by a prolonged and
severe dry period throughout the country. The effects of
drought on coffee resulted in some defoliation in Kituza,
with some trees just short of wilting. Coffee at Kawanda
withstood the drought well without obvious signs of water
stress. There were even some flowerings after the few and
occasional showers that fell in January and February. The
breeders were able to make some pollinations. The need for
weeding was reduced as there was little weed growth. Preparations
for planting new trials were delayed because of
the dry period.
