Abstract:
The GOU is giving top priority to food crop production for
both internal consumption and export. Emphasis is also being
focused on the small farmers which make up the large majority
of producers in Uganda. With this in mind the MA is developing
a research strategy that is responsive to the GOUs priorities
as well as being within its financial means. This section of
the MAs Research Plan is on food crops and emphasis is on
adaptive type research efforts that will produce results that
can be readily transferred to the farmer. Although all food
crops are considered, emphasis here is being placed on maize,
soybean, bean and sunflower production.
