Abstract:
The eleven days training titled “Horticultural climate smart production, post-harvest handling and value addition” under “skilling youth for jobs in agribusiness” with an objective to impart knowledge and skills for entrepreneurship among youths was held at Bulindi Zonal Agricultural Research and Development Institute (BuZARDI) from 1st – 11th March 2022. A total of 41 trainees from three Oil districts participated in the training. The purpose of this training was to train trainees on the principles and practices of climate smart production, post-harvest handling and value addition for horticultural crops. Training included various topics such as concepts on vegetable and fruit production, nursery bed management, field garden preparation, integrated pest management, integrated soil fertility management, value addition, marketing, farm budget and records. The training methodology was interactive as the trainers ensured that knowledge was not only disseminated but accurately perceived and understood by the trainees. In order to ensure this, trainers engaged trainees in discussions, practical and kept the forum open for feedback, queries and suggestions. These discussions, practical and interactive sessions were supported through training material such as pre and post-test, field work, farmer visits and handouts on subject matter.
