Abstract:
Forestry research had always been part of the general
forest management activities since the establishment
of the Forestry, Botanic and Scientific Department
in 1898. In 1954 the Forestry Research Center was
established at Nakawa. Forestry research was under the
control of the Commissioner for Forestry until 1992 when
it was transfered to the National Agricultural Research
Organization (NARO). NARO was mandated to
undertake, promote and coordinate research in all
aspects of crops, fisheries, forestry and livestock.
