Abstract:

Biotechnology can be defined as any techno-logical application that uses biological systems, living organisms or their derivatives to make or modify products or processes for specific use (UN Convention on Biological Diversity). Biotechnology is applied in medicine, industrial procedures, environment and agriculture. Agricultural biotechnology is a collection of techniques used to improve crops, animals and microorganisms and is classified as tra-ditional or modern. Traditional agricultural biotechnology involves the domestication of plants and animals for crop propagation and animal breeding.
