TICKS AND TICK BORNE DISEASES
Ticks are the most prevalent cattle parasites in the WHZ
They account for 85% of all livestock parasites. The most important tick species include;
Rhipicephalus appendiculatus
Amblyomma variagetum
Boophilus decoloratus
These ticks are vectors of livestock disases which are responsible for high production losses in cattle
Rhipicephalus appendiculatus
Commonly its called the Brown ear tick. It transmits pathogens called Theileria parva which causes East Coast Fever (Theileriosis) in
cattle and bufalloes
