Abstract:

Starch bearing crops are the main source of dietary energy for the world’s population. In
the human diet cereals and root crops constitute the starchy staple food, but various types of plant tissues of various plant species are consumed to meet the calorie
requirement. According to the origin the starch contained by cereal grains, root and tuber crops and, briefly by shoots and fruits is reviewed.
