Abstract:
The existence of these indicators in the PEAP is a manifestation of the importance of
forestry to communities in Uganda, and therefore creates the need for participatory
forest management approaches as the country strives for "prosperous people,
harmonious nation and beautiful country" (Vision 2025)1.
Collaborative Forest Management (CFM) is the most practised form of particpatory
forest management in Uganda. CFM whilst having a supportive policy and legal
framework still has many implementation issues that need to be addressed for its
success. The major implementation issues include lack of awareness, lack of short term tangible benefits to the target communities and implementers' bias.
