Abstract:
Soil sampling was done using the soil auger. Five points were augured (four corners of the farm and centre) at 3 levels (0-15, 15-30 and 30-45 cm depth). The soils were then thoroughly mixed in plastic basins and using the quartering method representative samples were obtain from 34 locations at 3 levels making a total of 102 soil samples. These samples were then dried at room temperature for three (3) weeks. Thereafter they were taken to Makerere University for routine analysis. Table 2 shows the farms and sites that were sampled. The farms were sampled after it was ascertained that they more or less represented the farming circumstances of their parent blocks.
