Abstract:
Mukono Zonal Agricultural Research and Development Institute (Mukono ZARDI) is one of the nine Zonal Agricultural Research and Development Institutes (ZARDIs) under the National Agricultural Research Organization (NARO) established through the NAR Act of 2005. The Institute is responsible for carrying out adaptive research and technology dissemination in the Lake Victoria Crescent agroecological zone. It covers 21 districts of Central Uganda; Mubende, Mityana, Luwero, Kyankwanzi, Mukono, Kayunga, Nakasongola, Nakaseke, Masaka and Kalangala. Others are Builcwe, Kalungu, Lwengo, Mpigi, Kampala, Bukomansimbi, Gomba, Butambala, Buvuma, Wakiso and Kiboga. Mukono ZARDI transitioned from a District Farm Institute to an Agricultural Research and Development Centre, and now a semi-autonomous zonal institute.
