Abstract:
The development or this work plan builds on the earlier one developed during 2001 which started with a literature review to collect background information on each district in the agroecological zone. The information included geographical location, political and administrative set up, climatic, demographic, social and economic characteristics of the region, livelihood strategies, economic and limning systems practices ails people. During that planning tvorkshop dial involved a cross section astakeholders than the districts at Arua, Mayo, Adjumani and Nebbi participants were composed of flamers, one district secretary of production, one agriculture, fisheries, ffirestry and veterintuy officers from each of' the four districts. The NGO community was represented by CARE, UNFA and Technoserve. Research Institutes were represented by scientists from the commodity or production systems projects that were rated priorities during the Feb 2000 pre-season planning workshops. There were also Directors of research from NAAltl, SAAltl, LIRI, AEATRI and four resource persons from NAROSEC. NAADS participated in the planning workshop. The purpose of the planning meeting was to bring together stakeholders to discuss and develop a work plan for the zone. The workshop specifically aimed to initiate and forge a close working relationship with relevant partners in the zone; to agree on priority production components and constraints for each district in the zone; to identify key interventions and activities for the key constraints or priority production components; to develop a two year work plan (including a log frame and budget) kw the centre and to encourage ownership of the Centre's programmes by the respective stakeholders.
