Abstract:
The Project for the Restoration of Livelihoods in the Northern Region (PRELNOR) is a Government of Uganda (GoU) project financed by an IFAD loan, an ASAP grant, the Government of Uganda, and the beneficiary contribution. This project is being implemented by the Ministry of Local Government. The overall goal of the project is increased income, food security and reduced vulnerability of poor rural households in the project area. The major constraints to enhancing agricultural production and productivity in the Northern Agro Ecological zone of Uganda includes limited hands-on knowledge and skills on production, post-harvest handling and value addition technologies. In order to improve delivery of extension services to farmers, there is need to provide technical information on value addition for each priority crop to support the extension agents and farmers. It is upon this background that the idea of developing this guide on value addition was conceived. This manual was developed during the PRELNOR write shops to support Agricultural extension agents to convey timely, consistent and correct messages to farmers.
