Abstract:

There are three main causes of Post-harvest losses in storage . These include
insects , wet heating and rodents. Although all the three loss causal factors
contribute significantly to energy loss within the food pipe line in Uganda, it is the
insect pests which pose the greatest threat. There are two main groups of insects
which are involved in causing the storage loss, and these are:
Coleoptera :comprising beetles and weevils. The most notable members
include bruchids curculionids, bostrichids, tenebrionids dermestids, cucujids
and anobiids ( Munro, 1996).
Lepidoptera: insects "grain moths" include families Gelechiidae and Pyralidae
