Abstract:
With support from the European Union (EU), the Agro-forestry program of the Forestry Resources Research
Institute (FORRI) of the National Agricultural Research Organization (NARO), has conducted Agroforestry
research and development activities in the country since 1996 to date. The areas of coverage were mainly
the lakeshore region (districts of Mukono, Mpigi, Wakiso and Mubende), the Kigezi highlands (districts of
Kabale and Rukungiri), and in the eastern region (districts of Iganga, Busia Tororo, Kumi and Mbale). Two
years ago, the EU extended support for implementation of Agroforestry R & D activities in the eastern
lowlands and highlands of Uganda under the Agroforestry Research and Development project. The project
goal, purpose and the expected outputs are outlined below.
