Abstract:

Initial tea seeds were imported by Colonial Government from India through the Royal Botanical
Gardens in England and planted at Botanical Gardens, Entebbe in 1900. Subsequent importations
of plants and seeds were from India and other South Asian countries. These materials were used
to establish tea plantations in central region and eventually Kabaro,e, Hoima, Masindi and
Kibale districts. The period between 1931-1940 involved more intrpcluctions by private tea
esta:es and tests of adaptability.
