Abstract:
The Government of Uganda (GOU) has targeted food crops as the area of emphasis for agricultural research for the next five years. Within the annual food crops grown in Uganda, only sunflower is identified primarily for its contribution as a high quality vegetable oil. The other oilseeds, soybeans (9,000 ha), groundnuts (80,000 ha) and sesame (30,000 ha' are grown primarily for their protein contribution as confecpionary products.
