Abstract:

Forestry research in Uganda dates back to 1898, when the Scientific and Forestry department was first formed by the colonial administration, mainly to address the exploration of the forests for useful trees and plants for rubber, timber, fuel, medicine and chemicals and a number of other useful products. The colonial administration later established a Forestry Research Centre at Nakawa while the mainstream Department of Forestry remained in Entebbe.
