Abstract:

The Africa Region of the World Bank is leading analytical work to support decision-making processes in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) countries, regional institutions and the World Bank, within the context of the TerrAfrica partnership, about (i) the risks posed by climate variability and change in relation to land resource dependent livelihoods in SSA, (ii) the impact of land use practices on carbon stocks and greenhouse gas emissions, and (iii) to provide practical guidance and tools about sustainable land management (SLM) approaches and practices that are best suited to meet development objectives while also addressing climate change adaptation and mitigation concerns. This analytical work is divided into three main pillars: (i) under Pillar One, climate change and variability and land management data will be collected and presented in an integrated information system; (ii) under Pillar Two, case studies will provide context specific and operational recommendations; and (iii) under Pillar Three, the information and knowledge generated will he broadly disseminated. This project focuses on the case studies conducted under Pillar Two.
