Abstract:

During the in country inception workshop two Landscapes (Tuikat and Kaseko) were selected in Kapchwora District as were for scaling SLM Innovations building on success story of district innovation platforms as part land care programme.. A baseline survey was conducted using the Participatory Diagnosis (PD). Considering its highly interactive nature. PD was used in establishing dialogue and engaging with farmers to achieve a better understanding of the local situation . Consequently, Tuikat and Kaseko landscapes community members were able to internalize and learn more about their communities by identifying strength opportunities, constraints as well developing plans for change to better their livelihoods. PD empowers community members to be agents of their own change as the activity encourages them obseve, reflect and to speak out for themselves and together with the facilitators design ways for interventions. A team comprising of staff from African Highland Initiative (AHI), Africa 2000 Network , Makerere University and Local Government facilitated the base line survey using a PD.
