Abstract:
Historical accounts of farming in Uganda indicate
that rice was introduced into the country
by Indian traders as early as 1904 (Bigirwa
et al, 2005). However rice became popular
recently and rice is known as a relatively new
crop in Uganda. Today rice is a key commercial
crop targeted for food security and increasing
house-hold income in Uganda.
Ugandans started eating rice daily and the
consumption is estimated at 10kg/capita/
year (Odogola 2006)
